8/21 – First Day of Instruction. Read the welcome message. Next, log in to our Laulima discussion forum and your hawaii.edu mailbox. Become familiar with these instructional media. Carefully review the information in our class blog, especially the schedule and the syllabus (click on the tab at the top of the page). In the syllabus, pay special attention to the grading policy and the document “Am I Ready for an Online Class?” These will give you an understanding of online classes in general and this class in particular.

8/22 – Intro to Paper #1. Read the Guidelines for Paper #1 by midnight. Midnight is the official time for all due dates.

8/23 – Laulima Discussion: Who Am I? [5 pts]

8/24 – Complete the Welcome Quiz, which is based on the Welcome Message. In Laulima, click on “Tests & Quizzes” in the left sidebar. [5 pts]

For our first paper, a number of short quizzes have been scheduled. Their purpose is to highlight information from assigned readings that will help you throughout this course. The quizzes are simple, and you can take them as often as you want (before the deadline) for the best possible scores. (See scores for discussions and quizzes – http://tinyurl.com/jbusvma/#dq .) In the remaining papers 2-5, the number of quizzes are kept to a minimum of one or two. If you score less than 10 on any of the quizzes, click on “feedback” (on the scoring summary page). You’ll see a list of the questions and your answers and, on the far right of each item, a score indicator. Correct is 1/1. Incorrect is 0/1.

12/8 – Submit FD5/Final Exam. Read the Guidelines for FD5/Final Exam [100 pts]. The readings are accessible now. Access to the FD5/final exam guidelines will be opened at around midnight on the day before the final exam, and you’ll have until midnight on the day of the exam to submit it. This means that you’ll have roughly 24 hours to complete the exam. The exam must be taken on this one day only. If you cannot take it on this day, email the instructor (jamess@hawaii.edu) on the first or second day of instruction. Omit the log of completed activities in this FD. For more information about the FD5/final exam, see #16 in the FAQs. Click here for the readings, which can be accessed prior to the day of the final.
